Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Sam Lay's influence on the Blues and other Blues musicians

Chicago, IL− Ten Tone Entertainment congratulates the Legendary Sam Lay, on his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame this month. His induction, as a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band is well deserved. Not only was he inducted into the Hall of Fame, but also is the subject of a newly released documentary on his life titled, Sam Lay in Bluesland.

Ten Tone Entertainment's co-founder, Jon Hiller had the privilege of working with Sam Lay starting in the early 1970's to the present day and is featured in the documentary as Sam Lay's drummer in the concert featured in the film. A role Jon has enjoyed since he was a 17 year old playing behind Sam in the Bob Reidy Blues Band. He considers Sam Lay a mentor and learned to play his instrument from the best. "Backing up Sam as a teenager was a little daunting; those were big shoes to fill, as a drummer." Although Hiller might be too modest to admit, Sam has been heard to say from the bandstand, that if he was going to have another drummer on the stage with him, he wanted it to be Jon. Hiller considers Sam a big influence in his life and drumming style. "I remember sleeping behind the amps, between sets, in those days because I was still going to high school during the day. Sam would tell me to dress up to play, even in the days of blue jeans. He would say, always be better dressed than the people paying to see you play. Good advice still today. Those were good times."

Hiller went on to play with many blues greats including, Carey Bell, Eddy Clearwater, Otis Rush, Johnny Littlejohn, Chuck Berry and Willie Dixon. That led to stints with different bands and musical styles from rock to rockabilly to country, but he always remembers the influence Sam Lay had on his career.

Over the years Jon went onto do many recordings for Delmark Records along with other local and European labels; his discography can be found at http://tenonine.com/home/info.html. He is currently Co-owner of Ten O Nine Records.

Ten Tone Entertainment and Jon Hiller congratulate Sam Lay and thank him for his contributions to music history.
